April 5 (Friday)
In order to adjust better to the high elevation, we went on an acclimatization hike to the Everest View hotel, above 800 ft higher than Namche. The trail was pretty steep at first but leveled out about halfway through. Before we got to the hotel we got rewarded by expensive views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and AMA Dablam. The summit of Everest looked pretty calm although there was some snow drift on the ridge. Not like it mattered at the moment since I wouldn’t be anywhere near the summit anytime soon, but the anxiety and self-doubt definitely kicked in. Our whole climbing group took our first picture together with the view of our destination in the background.
We hiked up a little further to reach the hotel where we set on he terrace sipping hot chocolate and tea while admiring the panorama of the Himalayas.
The whole hike together with descent back to Namche took about 3 hours.
